Essentially, with Worldmark timeshare you do not purchase a particular interest in a particular property, but rather you acquire credits, which you can then utilize as you so wish. The benefits of the Worldmark system The noticeable benefit of buying into the Worldmark program is that you neither limit your destination, nor do you limit your time. Moreover, dependent on the number of "credits" you acquire, you can take a vacation using this program for as short a period or as long a period as you decide. Let's say, for example, that you only want to use the scheme for a couple of long weekends away each year, then, subject to the availability of the place you want to visit, there's nothing stopping you from doing this. A further upside to using the Worldmark points program is that you are not restricted to the number of persons who go with you. So, if you fancy a romantic get-away, this can arranged. On the other hand, if you feel like taking a family vacation, and you can do this. It's all down to the number of credits you have. The pitfalls of the Worldmark system The most noticeable pitfall with buying into the Worldmark program is that they only have a limited number of properties (currently this is around 5,000 properties in 55 locations), but potentially an unlimited number of members. As a result, there's a chance you may well get neither your first pick location, nor your first pick of time (if both are very popular). Purchasing your own fixed time program would obviously avoid this, but at the same time you would then be responsible for selling this if you no longer wanted it. The only other real potential pitfall with this program is the fact that little is made of what happens if credits remain unutilized at the end of the year/period (for example, do credit accrue to the next year, or are they lost forever?). Something you should certainly check-out. When all is said and done, however, Worldmark have certainly be at the forefront of innovative timeshare programs and the Worldmark timeshare scheme is now being copied by a number of service providers.
